As per sources A press release issued by Thiruvananthapuram railway division officials states that the Railways would ply 674 special trains this pilgrimage season, compared to 630 last season. So 674 special trains will be running to Sabarimala during the Mandala Puja and Makaravilakku season 2010 – 2011 (in November and December 2010; and January 2011). In these 674 special trains, Southern Railway will run 448 trains, South Central Railway would ply 140 trains, 56 from South Western Railway, 28 will be running by Central Railway and two by the North East Frontier Railway. In addition to the special trains, 660 sleeper coaches and 30 AC sleeper coaches will be added to trains to clear the heavy rush of Ayyappa pilgrims. One additional unreserved ticket counter will be functioned at Chengannur, Kottayam and Ernakulam Junction stations. During the Makaravilakku season from January 14 to 16 in 2011, two additional counters will be functioned at Chengannur and Kottayam and one at Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town and Tiruvilla.
